This position is eligible for a Department of Defense SkillBridge Program Internship for active duty servicemembers transitioning out of the U.S. Military.
Incorporated in 2011, North Wind Resource Consulting's core capabilities include environmental documentation and permitting; natural and cultural resource surveys; wildlife and botanical expertise; National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) technical services; historic and prehistoric surveys; environmental consultation such as Section 106 for cultural resources, Section 404 for wetlands, and Section 7 for endangered species); and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and mapping capabilities. North Wind Resource Consulting maintains offices across the country.
Job Description
Successful applicants will be in good physical condition and have experience performing pedestrian surveys under a variety of field conditions with experience recording prehistoric and historic period archaeological sites of varying complexity, the ability to write detailed daily field notes, take photographs of artifacts and discoveries, and mapping discovery locations as necessary. The applicant should have the ability to work independently and operate GPS for navigation and mapping.
Position will require extensive physical exertion, such as walking up to 10 hours a day at speeds of at least 3 mph over steep, uneven, heavily wooded, challenging terrain in outdoor heat and cold stress conditions, and weather elements such as wind, snow, or rain. Ability to carry up to 50 lbs. of equipment; ability to lift a minimum of 60 lbs.; ability to dig and excavate at least 1 cu meter per day; potential contact with poisonous plants, insects, and animals. Individual must be able to conduct these tasks while wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment. This work will be performed in remote locations and include camping. North Wind appreciates and values its skilled employees and compensates them accordingly. Per diem and lodging costs are covered for all fieldwork.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology or a closely related field
- Completion of an accredited field school
- Demonstrated experience in archaeological survey.
- Ability to recognize and document pre-contact and historical period artifacts, features, and or other cultural materials.
- Support the Field Director/Crew Chief in writing detailed daily field notes, taking photographs of artifacts and discoveries, and mapping discovery locations as necessary.
- Works well with project members and maintain a high level of communication regarding the status of tasks.
- Ability to sketch artifacts to scale desired.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
