Assistant Professor in Medical Anthropology
The Department of Anthropology at Brandeis University seeks a sociocultural anthropologist specializing in medical anthropology for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position, to begin in Fall 2024. This position is subject to budgetary approval. Research specialization is open, and preference will be given to candidates whose research interests complement and expand those of existing department faculty.
The successful candidate will teach our broad survey medical anthropology course (Medicine, Body and Culture), as well as other undergraduate and graduate courses in their areas of expertise. A well-rounded candidate may also be invited to teach core graduate or undergraduate courses in anthropology (such as in theory, methods, and/or introduction to social-cultural anthropology).
The successful candidate will also participate in the popular undergraduate Health: Science, Society, and Policy Program. Our faculty members advise undergraduate majors, mentor seniors on independent projects, and serve as advisors and mentors for MA and PhD students. The full-time teaching load is four courses per year (two per semester). The candidate for this position must hold a PhD by the time of appointment.

First consideration given to applications received by October 2, 2023. Letters of recommendation will be solicited once a short list of candidates is compiled. At that time, teaching evaluations and a sample medical anthropology/Medicine, Body, and Culture draft syllabus will also be requested. Zoom interviews will be held in mid- to late October 2023, and campus visits will take place in November and December.
