Assistant Professor of Sociocultural Anthropology, Middlebury College, MIDDLEBURY, VT

The Department of Anthropology invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Sociocultural Anthropology beginning on July 1, 2024. Screening of applications will begin on October 15, 2023. Priority will be given to candidates applying by that date, but the position will remain open until filled.

The successful candidate will have a record of in-person ethnographic fieldwork and expertise in one or more of the following areas: political anthropology, kinship and networks, anthropology of media, ritual and expressive culture, diaspora and migration. The candidate should have an active research program and we welcome candidates with an applied focus. Geographical area is open; but we have a special interest in East Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East. The successful candidate will be expected to share teaching responsibilities for at least two of the following core courses: introductory sociocultural anthropology, methodology, and anthropological theory. Candidates should make clear which of these courses they have taught previously and/or are prepared to teach. The successful candidate will also contribute regularly to the college-wide curriculum, including the first-year seminar program and winter term curriculum. Candidates should provide evidence of commitment to excellent teaching and scholarly potential. We are particularly interested in candidates with an established record in teaching sociocultural anthropology and who can incorporate students into their research.
