The Division of Anthropology is seeking an advanced undergraduate or graduate intern for the Fall 2023 semester (September to December) to work with the Asian Ethnology collections.
In Spring 2023, the Division of Anthropology, Asian Ethnology collection received a sizeable donation of Japanese ema or votive offerings offered at Shinto shrines in Japan, collected by an anthropologist in the 1990s and early 2000s.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Interns are asked to work two / three days a week, for a period of 10 weeks per semester (not exceeding 20 hours/week or 240 total hours). Applications will be accepted until August 4th.

The expected salary for the Anthropology Intern, Asian Ethnology is $17.00/hour. This position is overtime eligible.
Pay will be determined based on several factors. The hiring range for the position at commencement is based on the type of work and the scope of responsibilities. The salary and placement offered is based on a number of individualized factors, including, but not limited to, skills, knowledge, training, education, credentials, areas of specialization and depth and scope of experience.

- Collections-based research to contextualize Asian Ethnology Japanese ema collection, providing translations and identifications of the text, religious and folk iconography, as well as identifying and locating the associated shrines or temples, and specific contexts of use.
- Weekly (or bi-weekly) virtual meetings with museum staff to present and discuss research findings, progress, and next directions.
- Aiding in sorting and identifying supporting materials / documentation for cataloguing and/or archival filing.
- Potential on-site visit(s) to consult collections and/or Orientations, as/if needed.
