Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps' Mission
It is the mission of the Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps to lead our nations back to cultural and ecological well-being. The Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps has offices in Acoma Pueblo, Isleta Pueblo, Gallup NM (Navajo Nation), Zuni Pueblo, and Hopi Tribe. ALCC also serves Indigenous Youth across the country through its Individual Placements Program. *Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps serves local tribal communities in the regions we operate and across the United States. The National Park Service (NPS) is entrusted with the management of lands and waters that have been and remain ancestral homelands of Indigenous Tribes, who have lived on and cared for these places since time immemorial. The mission of the Cultural Resources Program at the Southeast Utah Parks Group is to understand, protect, and preserve, cultural resources for the enjoyment and preservation of our shared human heritage.
ALCC National Park Service Southeast Parks Group Archeology Technician Overview:
Individual Placements will participate in all aspects of cultural resource inventory and monitoring work including site documentation, updates, condition assessment and other cyclic site visit activities such as repeat photography and photogrammetric modeling for change detection. This work includes both field data collection and in-office processing and data entry.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
1) Assist with Cultural Resource Documentation
- Work with supervisor and other program archaeologist(s) to identify archaeologicalsites
- Learn and practice all aspects of site recordation including fulfillment of site forms,maps, photography and database requirements
- Locate known sites and assess site update needs
2) Assist with Cultural Resource Monitoring
- Work with supervisor and other program archaeologist(s) to produce transactional tabular, photographic and 3D datasets to help detect change over time.
- Learn and practice all aspects of site monitoring including fulfillment of monitoring forms, photography and condition assessment
3) Assist with Historic Preservation projects
- Work with supervisor and other program archaeologist(s) on structural preservation projects
- Learn and practice varied aspects of preservation and structural stabilization activities including post-stabilization documentation.
Required Skills
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Previous experience completing archeology field work in the Southwest US, and familiarity with prehistory and history of the Southwest
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with limited supervision after the initial training period.
- Maneuver and operate in a mixture of office and field work. This can include long periods of standing or walking on rough, uneven ground, bending, crouching, and stooping.
- Completed High School or Equivalent
- Interest in learning about NPS resource management
- Able to use effectively and safely use hand tools, hand power tools, and to safely operate motor vehicles.
- Able to complete duties that include bending, lifting, climbing, reaching, standing for extended periods of time, loading and unloading material.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently after training.
- Ability to work effectively on a team to complete projects.
- Ability to work safely and productively in outdoor work settings, including under adverse conditions. This will include working outside in high temperatures an inclement weather.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
- Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Archeology, Anthropology, or a directly related field along with at least 15 credit hours in archeology related coursework.
- Completion of an archeological field school or similar level of volunteer/internship/work experience including field work experience of excavation and/or pedestrian survey
- Interest in pursuing a career in conservation.
- Comfort with computers and troubleshooting skills with an interest in learning new software.

- A passport indicating that the INS has been approved it as temporary evidence of lawful admission for permanent residence.
- A departure record (INS 194) indication that the INS has approved it as temporary evidence of lawful admission for permanent residence.
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to pass required background checks
