Description

The Department of Anthropology & Sociology at Albion College invites applications for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor in Anthropology for the 2023-2024 academic year. This position will actively promote diversity, belonging and equity through critical and compassionate communication and strategic outreach efforts to various students, faculty and staff (e.g., historically under-represented, first-generation, undocumented and DACA students, LGBTQ students). Albion College is an anti-racist institution. Candidates should have experience with and be enthusiastic about teaching students from diverse backgrounds. 

The teaching load is three courses per semester and includes the possibility of contributing to Albion’s core curriculum and interdisciplinary programs.  In the fall the successful candidate will teach: 1) a four-field introduction to anthropology, 2) an upper-level course on biological anthropology; and 3) anthropological theory.  In the spring, the teaching load will include a four-field introduction to anthropology and two upper-level courses in the visitor’s area of expertise.  Teaching and research interests related to medical anthropology are desired but not required.  A Ph.D.at the time of appointment is preferred but not required at the time of appointment.  Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching is essential.

  6. Names and contact information for three academic references.
