York College, founded in 1966, is a center of academic excellence in the heart of Jamaica, Queens. York's academic programs are housed in three schools: The School of Arts & Sciences, The School of Business and Information Systems, and The School of Health Sciences and Professional Programs. Over sixty baccalaureate programs from across a variety of disciplines, including accounting, aviation management, business, computer science, journalism, social work, teacher education, a dual BS/MS degree in Occupational Therapy, and one of the top-ranked nursing programs in New York State, provide students with opportunities to study liberal arts, sciences, and professional programs. The College also offers five graduate programs: Aviation Management, Clinical Trials Management, Pharmaceutical Science and Business, Physician Assistant, and Social Work.

The department of history, philosophy, and anthropology at York College, The City University of New York seeks a teacher/scholar in critical race, gender, or sexuality studies for the full-time position of lecturer, with a primary teaching focus in anthropology or philosophy. The successful candidate will be an innovative, evidence-informed teacher capable of designing and teaching courses in their primary discipline as well as in a newly planned interdisciplinary major program in social justice.The person hired will join a university-wide cohort of new faculty to develop coordinated pedagogical strategies across disciplines. They should be familiar with the current scholarship on teaching and learning in the humanities and social sciences, and passionate about teaching to a broad cross-section of students in the University's general education curriculum .

The teaching load is 4 courses/semester, 8 courses/year, with emphasis on first- and second-year courses in the primary discipline. There is also an opportunity to teach 1-2 upper-level courses each year related to the candidate's specialization consistent with department needs. Robust service to the department and College is expected. Candidates with an active research portfolio are welcome but should understand this position is focused squarely on teaching and there is no protected time for scholarship. CUNY lecturers are eligible for a CCE- "Certificate of Continuous Employment" which is similar to tenure.

QUALIFICATIONS

A minimum of a master's degree is required, with a doctoral degree preferred. The ability to teach effectively in multiple modalities, and ability to collaborate with others in a professional environment, are also required.

COMPENSATION

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022 City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022 will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.

After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period.

If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day.

Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period. An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the EmblemHealth website.

The salary range for this position is $69,983- $81,466 commensurate with qualifications and experience.
