Overview

The Anthropology Program at USU seeks a Temporary Assistant Professor in Biological Anthropology for a non-tenure-track, one-year (9 month, academic year), full-time appointment beginning August 1, 2023. We seek applicants with a strong record of research, publication, and the integration of their research interests with teaching. The successful applicant will teach a 3/3 course load (online and face-to-face courses) including introduction to Biological Anthropology, Perspectives on Race, and Osteology. Other courses will be determined based upon department needs and candidate interests. Review of applications will begin on May 15, 2023 and continue until the position is filled.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will teach courses in Biological Anthropology to fill departmental needs and other courses relevant to their area of expertise. The successful candidate will also advise undergraduate students pursuing the biological anthropology track in the major. Topic and area specialization within biological anthropology is open. Special consideration will be given to candidates whose research and teaching interests include a background in bioarchaeology and complement current program offerings.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ph.D. (ABD acceptable) in Anthropology from a CHEA accredited institution or international equivalent.
• Demonstrated potential for effective on-line course development and teaching experience.
• Demonstrated ability to live and work legally in the U.S.
• The successful candidate must be able to satisfactorily complete a background check prior to employment.
Preferred Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Anthropology from CHEA accredited institution or international equivalent and evidence of successful experience in on-line course-development and teaching.

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology is housed within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Utah State University.
