HELIX Environmental Planning, Inc., a growing, California-based environmental consulting firm, is seeking a Cultural Resources Project Manager in our Orange County (Irvine) office. HELIX offers cultural resources, environmental, biological, acoustical, air quality, and GIS services to both the public and private sectors. The Project Manager position will be responsible for managing cultural resource studies for small to large projects, in coordination with HELIX's Cultural Resources senior staff. Duties may include conducting and/or oversight of research, field surveys, data recovery and analysis operations, artifact analysis, and mitigation monitoring programs; report and site record preparation; coordination with other cultural resources and environmental planning staff and subconsultants; proposal preparation; and interaction with clients and reviewing agencies. The ideal candidate must have a demonstrated ability to manage project deliverable timelines and budgets effectively, a positive attitude, and experience working in a team-oriented environment. Knowledge of the southern California cultural environmental and regulatory setting is required.

Salary will be based on qualifications and/or experience, with a robust benefits package. Expected starting pay range of $79,000 to $100,000.

Minimum Requirements for Cultural Resources Project Manager:
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in archaeology, anthropology, history, or closely related field with a concentration in archaeology.
  • Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) or willingness to immediately work toward achieving the necessary educational and experience requirements to obtain this certification.
  • Minimum of 8 years of demonstrated experience with archaeological projects, including field surveys, site testing or data recovery, preparation of California Department of Parks and Recreation 523-series forms, and authoring or contributing to archaeological studies or reports.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working for an environmental consulting firm, overseeing archaeology projects, and completing archaeology surveys/studies in conformance with CEQA, NHPA Section 106, or NEPA.
  • Experience providing services in compliance with federal and California laws and regulations (i.e., CEQA, NEPA and Section 106 of the NHPA) pertaining to cultural resource management and an understanding of regulatory agency programs, procedures, and policies pertaining to cultural resource management.
  • Experience in the study of southern California prehistoric and historic archaeology.
  • Strong research, technical writing, organizational, and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.

Additional skills/accomplishments considered a plus:
  • Knowledge of southern California local agency guidelines for CEQA compliance, including guidelines pertaining to the completion of cultural resource studies.
  • Professional experience with agency coordination.
  • Professional experience with Native American coordination/communication.
  • Experience with California infrastructure projects such as Caltrans, utilities, and pipeline projects.
  • Existing client relationships.
  • Experience preparing proposals including a scope of work and/or budget.
