The School of Social and Political Sciences within the faculty is composed of the Disciplines of Anthropology, Government and International Relations, Political Economy, and Sociology and Criminology. It maintains a strong reputation for theoretical innovation, excellence in ethnographic fieldwork and an outstanding commitment to the training of postgraduate research students.

The School of Social and Political Sciences is seeking to appoint an outstanding academic at the level of Professor (Level E) who will demonstrate senior leadership in research and teaching in the Discipline  of Anthropology. The position will play a significant role in contributing to the academic endeavours within the School and the Discipline. The holder of the position will contribute to fostering a culture of excellence through their own expertise and through guiding academic staff and students towards success. It is expected that the successful candidate will take up the role of a Chair in the Discipline of Anthropology and be responsible for developing a strong teaching and research team. 

About you

The successful candidate will:

  • hold a PhD or equivalent higher research degree in relevant academic field.
  • demonstrate a record of significant academic leadership and strategic management.
  • have national/international reputation in research with outstanding publication record and alignment with the Discipline’s major research themes (more information here)
  • demonstrate evidence of successful program in supervising postgraduate higher degree research students.
  • have experience in leadership of academic units and teaching experience in Anthropology.
  • have the capacity to attract external research funding.

Term and remuneration

The successful candidate will be offered a continuing full time position, subject to completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees. The successful candidate will be offered an attractive remuneration package commensurate with the responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s relevant experience and qualifications.

Visa sponsorship and relocation assistance will also be provided if required.
