Anthropology Instructor (One or More Positions)

The Behavioral Sciences Department at Bakersfield College is seeking an Anthropology Instructor for our Risings Scholars Program (a program that brings higher education to students incarcerated in local California prisons) and students at other campuses in and near Bakersfield. History of Bakersfield College:

Bakersfield College is located in Bakersfield, California, in the heart of the Central Valley. Established in 1913, Bakersfield College is one of the nation's oldest continually operating community colleges. The college serves 33,000 students annually on the 153-acre main campus in northeast Bakersfield, at the Delano Campus (35 miles north of Bakersfield), the Weill Institute (downtown Bakersfield), and BC South-West (southwest Bakersfield). We also offer classes at several alternative locations, including Shafter Learning Center, Arvin/Lamont, McFarland, Olive Drive Training Facility, Wasco and other regional community locations.

About the Behavioral Science Department:

The Anthropology Program is seeing growth in curriculum, enrollment, and course offerings. The Anthropology program has a dedicated lab with cast collection for the biological/physical anthropology lab course, with cross-over for the archaeology course. Labs and lecture rooms have updated technology, some fitted with hyflex teaching by Fall 2023. BC offers introductory courses in the 4 Anthropological Subfields: biological/physical anthropology, cultural anthropology, archaeology, and anthropological linguistics for anthropology majors and non-majors seeking transfer and/or completion. Anthropology faculty are expected to teach the core ADT courses: introduction to cultural anthropology, introduction to physical anthropology, introduction to physical anthropology lab, and introduction to archaeology; along with one or more of Bakersfield College's other anthropology course offerings. Anthropology faculty are encouraged to participate in anthropological and/or multi-cultural events on campus and in the community.

This assignment may include teaching courses at various locations, different times, and with different modalities. Bakersfield College offers college courses in the greater Bakersfield area, rural communities, correctional facilities and high schools using the following modalities: traditional, face-to-face, correspondence, online, and interactive broadcasts.

Other duties include: participation in student recruitment and articulation; transfer programs; maintaining subject matter currency; developing and revising curriculum; using computer and technology; assessment of learning outcomes; collegial participation in departmental, college and discipline-specific professional activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's in anthropology or archaeology

OR

Bachelor's in either AND Master's in sociology, biological sciences, forensic sciences, genetics or paleontology

OR - The equivalent. Certain combinations of education, experience, and other accomplishments in the field may be judged as equal to the stated minimum qualifications for these positions. Candidates who feel they possess such equivalent qualifications must request and submit an APPLICATION FOR EQUIVALENCE form. Supporting documents must be included with the completed form.

Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administration in California Community Colleges

AND

A demonstrated sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities

Note: Degrees and credits must be from accredited institutions (Title V Section 53406). Any degree from a country other than the United States, including Canada and Great Britain, must be evaluated by an evaluation service.

• Ability to assess student, program, and institutional learning outcomes;

SALARY RANGE

$ 80,439.85 - $ 139,237.88 annually

Maximum Entry Level Salary: $ 98,542.44 annually
