The History and Society Division at Babson College seeks an Assistant Teaching Professor (non-tenure track) in applied social science to begin in Fall 2023. The discipline and geographical specialization are open with possible strengths in environmental studies, migration, restorative and transformational justice, and social movements. The ideal candidate will have an active professional career that demonstrates interest in combining scholarly knowledge with their work with non-governmental or governmental advocacy organizations, interest groups, mutual aid collectives and social support networks. This may include disciplinary and inter-disciplinary research and scholarship concerned with pedagogy. Teaching Professors are non-tenure track, multiyear renewable lines eligible for promotion to Associate and then Full Teaching Professor and for full benefits.
The teaching load is six courses (sections) per year. We seek an innovative educator whose teaching incorporates inclusive pedagogies and integrates methodologies and theoretical perspectives from multiple liberal arts disciplines. Successful candidates will show readiness to develop and teach intermediate and advanced courses to non-majors. Their applied approach will be especially appreciated in a cross-disciplinary problem/solution oriented liberal arts course for first-year students, an intermediate Socio-Ecological Systems course co-taught with a science faculty member, and an opportunity to design an advanced experiential course with significant interaction with external actors such as NGOs, governmental agencies, entrepreneurs, etc.
Successful candidates will hold a Ph.D., will have evidence of teaching effectiveness, and will demonstrate a commitment to increasing diversity and fostering inclusion in academia. As regular members of the faculty, the ideal candidate will exhibit a desire to engage with the Babson community to provide both divisional and college-wide service, and continue a record of intellectual vitality.
Please submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, 2 syllabi of courses taught, and evidence of teaching effectiveness by March 17, 2023. Additional materials may be requested after initial screening.
