Job Summary

The Department of Global Studies and Modern Languages at Drexel University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in US Latinx and/or Latin American Health, beginning September 1, 2023. Expertise could be in studies of health-related research as it relates to social justice, inequality in Latinx communities in the US and/or Latin America, public health issues in Latin America and/or within Latinx communities, and other similar questions using qualitative or quantitative approaches. The Department will consider applications at the Assistant Professor rank. Global Studies is an interdisciplinary department at Drexel University, building on existing strength in International Area Studies. This position may include a joint appointment with the department at Drexel relevant to the candidate’s disciplinary background. Founded in 1891, Drexel University is a dynamic, comprehensive, co-op university located within walking distance of Center City Philadelphia.

Required Qualifications

We seek candidates who specialize in Health in US Latinx communities and/or Latin America. Background could be in Sociology, Anthropology, Latin American Studies, or other social science related fields. Successful candidates will also be expected to pursue an active research agenda and to contribute to the Department's undergraduate curricula. As an interdisciplinary department, we also seek a candidate interested in helping us grow and shaping the future of Global Studies at Drexel University. This will include teaching and mentoring our outstanding undergraduate students, all of whom have foreign language proficiency and a broad, global outlook. We have a growing Spanish-language program, including an intermediate Spanish certificate and a certificate in Spanish for Healthcare professionals.  We also offer a variety of relevant study abroad programs, short-term intensive courses abroad, and co-op opportunities.

For candidates at the Assistant Professor level, all requirements for the PhD must be completed by September 1, 2023.
