The Department of Geography and Anthropology at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Cultural Anthropology to begin Fall 2023. A PhD degree or its equivalent in Anthropology or a related field is required at the time of appointment. The appointment will be full-time (nine-month) with a 2-2 teaching load. We seek a community-engaged scholar with a research program in one or more of the following areas aligning with University Research Priorities: 1) medical anthropology, health justice and well-being, health disparities, and biotech, and/or 2) environmental anthropology, environmental justice, energy infrastructure, and coastal studies. Geographic area is open. We especially welcome applications from scholars whose work engages social inequality and racial justice. Duties include teaching graduate or undergraduate courses, holding regular office hours, supervising graduate assistants if assigned, and maintaining an active research agenda with regular publications.

Candidates should have a promising program of research, funding, and publication and an interest in mentoring students in our BA, MA, and PhD degrees in Anthropology. Demonstrated excellence in teaching is preferred. Course loads typically include introductory Cultural Anthropology courses and topical upper level/grad courses.

Faculty in the department contribute to programs in African and African American Studies, Coastal Studies, Comparative Literature, Disaster Studies, Hispanic Studies, International Studies, Linguistics, and Women's Gender and Sexuality Studies.
