JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Department of Anthropology at The Pennsylvania State University (https://anth.la.psu.edu/) is seeking applications for a non-tenure track Assistant Research Professor in palynology and paleoethnobotany with a particular emphasis on tropical environments. This is a limited-term appointment for one year from the date of hire with a possibility of renewal and split between the Departments of Anthropology and Geosciences. The anticipated start date for this position is as soon as possible.
The selected candidate will participate in and support collaborative research with faculty in anthropology, geosciences, and other Penn State departments. This position will be responsible for managing the Palynology lab in Geosciences and the Paleoethnobotany lab in Anthropology.
Duties of the Assistant Research Professor include, but not limited to: supporting funded research projects, developing and implementing processes and procedures for palaeobotanical and archaeobotanical analysis, and mentoring and training graduate and undergraduate students.
The ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D. degree in ecology, biological sciences, anthropology, geosciences, or a related discipline by time of appointment and will have demonstrated experience in the analysis of macro- and micro-botanical remains, pollen extraction and analysis, and the statistical analysis of paleoenviromental data.
In addition, successful candidates must either have demonstrated a commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community, or describe one or more ways they would envision doing so, given the opportunity.
