The Department of Anthropology, Gender Studies, and International Studies in the Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership (the division of social sciences) at The City College of the City University of New York invites applications for two full-time, tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor in Anthropology to begin in Fall 2023.

We seek anthropologists from across the subfields with innovative theoretical approaches to intersectional and anticolonial research. We are particularly interested in scholars who engage with environmental inequality and social justice, ethnic studies, medical anthropology, public health, queer theory, or urban studies. These positions are part of a City College cluster hire spanning multiple divisions of the College and focused on environmental, cultural, and social justice. While geographic region of expertise is open, we are especially interested in scholars whose work might be relevant to New York City and the Harlem community.

The successful candidates will be responsible for and must be committed to teaching and mentoring a diverse student population in introductory and advanced courses within the Department and to working collaboratively in service to the Department, the School, and the College. Additionally, candidates will be responsible for research and share responsibility for committee and department assignments, including administrative and other functions. The ideal candidates will also share the Department's commitment to social justice and to public scholarship around questions of race, gender, sexuality, ability, citizenship, and globalization.

A Ph.D. in Anthropology or appropriate related field is required at time of application.

Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.
