The University of South Alabama Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Social Work invites applications for a full-time (9-month) tenure-track assistant professor position in anthropology to begin August 15, 2023. Applicants should possess an earned doctoral degree in Anthropology or a closely related field, but ABD’s near completion of the degree will be considered.

We seek a broadly trained cultural anthropologist strongly committed to four-field undergraduate education and active field research. Ethnographic and topical specializations are open. We are especially interested in applicants whose work addresses health, food systems, and/or global and local issues, including immigration or climate change. The appointment entails teaching assignments in introductory Cultural Anthropology, Ethnographic Methods, Anthropological Theory, as well as other courses. Preferred candidates will engage with students and local communities in research, enhance faculty diversity, and seek collaborative relationships with interdisciplinary programs (e.g., African-American Studies, Native American Studies, Gender Studies, Folklore, or the Colleges of Medicine or Nursing).

To apply, send an email with a cover letter, CV and list of three references to the Search Committee Chairperson, Dr. Mark Moberg, at the following email address: mmoberg@southalabama.edu. Cover letters should address research interests and teaching philosophy.

Official letters of recommendation will be solicited for those candidates who are selected for a campus interview, following initial review of applications. Applicants invited for a campus interview must arrange to have all official graduate and undergraduate transcripts sent directly by the Registrars of all colleges attended to Dr. Mark Moberg at the following address:
