Job Description:

Binghamton University (SUNY) invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor of Global Public Health in the area of Environmental Health. We seek a scholar with a research focus on environmental health and health disparities and would prefer an established record of high-quality, multi-faceted, and widely collaborative research. Methodological and geographic area of focus are open.

This faculty member will be one of the core faculty in Binghamton University's new undergraduate Global Public Health program and may also support Environmental Studies (https://www.binghamton.edu/environmental-studies/undergraduate/) and other Arts & Sciences programs. Applicants should show a strong program of research and strong potential for and/or demonstrated success in securing external funding. Applicants at the associate level should further demonstrate capacity for program leadership. Methodological and geographic areas of expertise are open, but should fit the Global Public Health program's interest in phenomena that transcend borders to impact health and health disparities. We are particularly interested in scholars who will capitalize on collaboration opportunities and resources within the university's Transdisciplinary Areas of Excellence (https://www.binghamton.edu/transdisciplinary-areas-of-excellence/index.html), Core Facilities (https://www.binghamton.edu/research/vp/corefacilties.html), and Harpur College of Arts and Sciences (https://www.binghamton.edu/harpur/). The faculty member will be encouraged to pursue affiliation with other academic units and programs as appropriate and will have the opportunity to work with graduate students across a variety of disciplines.

Duties:

  • Teach a 2/2 course load
  • Conduct research, including research with the capacity to involve students
  • Participate in GPH program leadership (e.g., weekly seminar organization, annual program assessment)

Binghamton University's Global Public Health program combines the perspectives of public health (the science of understanding disease causation, preventing disease, and improving individual health with population-level programs, policies, and activities) and global health (the art and science of implementing public health on a global scale, with special attention to phenomena that transcend international borders, and those that particularly compromise the health of disadvantaged groups, in low- and high-income nations alike). The program's focus is on providing transdisciplinary training for students broadly interested in health and particularly interested in disease prevention.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion are critical global public health concerns and are at the core of the Global Public Health program's teaching and research goals. The Global Public Health program and Binghamton University are committed to attracting and retaining a diverse faculty, staff, and student body, and to honoring the experiences, perspectives, and unique identities of all of our faculty and students. Candidates for this position should describe how they will actively contribute to our mission of advancing a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion through their research, teaching, mentoring, and service, and through their engagement with fellow faculty, students, and staff.
