The University's commitment to quality instruction and innovative research is expressed in the collections of the Laurance S. Rockefeller Library. The Library collections include a broad selection of disciplinary and transdisciplinary scholarly materials in physical and electronic formats: books, journals, audiovisual materials, research databases, and academic tools.
The library supports the research and learning in all four schools at CIIS, and the collection is particularly strong in the fields of: counseling, psychology, philosophy and religion, East-West comparative studies, integrative health, social and cultural anthropology, human sexuality, diversity and social justice, acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, various facets of an integral worldview, and the perennial wisdom.
The library has a strong commitment to inclusive, mindful, and antiracist practices and all Library Staff members will contribute to advance the goal of fostering a diverse and inclusive community at CIIS.
Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Associate Director of the Library, the Systems and Reference Librarian administers to the library's various systems and manages updates to ensure library access to all active CIIS students, faculty, and staff. Under the supervision of the University Librarian, this position also serves as a key member on the Reference Team providing research help through reference services, instruction, and collection development. This person maintains professionalism in all manner of interactions, must be well organized, flexible, and enjoy the challenges of supporting the diverse community within our university. Work varies, requiring independent judgment within prescribed standards and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Administration of the Integrated Library System
- Maintenance of system configuration and interface design to align with Library policies and processes
- First-line technical support and liaison with vendor for support, upgrades, training
- Upkeep of regular data and systems tasks, patron loads, user permissions, admin settings
- Support Associate Director in integrations with other Library systems and school-wide systems
Administration of all Library systems
- Library systems include: Springshare Suite (LibCal, LibGuides, LibStaffer, etc.); OCLC (EZProxy, Tipasa); BePress Digital Commons; ProQuest RefWorks, others as needed
- Project management for all systems upgrades, migrations, implementations
- Set up/remove permissions and logins for library staff; assist in trainings
Primary Technical Contact for Library
- Liaise with USWired for on-campus support, coordinating technical support for all Library desktops, lab computers, servers, equipment
- Liaise with Student Accessibility Services with the technical aspects of accommodation requests
- Coordinate with vendors of library software and electronic resource providers for configuring initial access, gathering pertinent information, identifying opportunities and problems, and proposing solutions
- Collaborate to budget for systems needs
Library Web site, and other CIIS Web presence
- Maintaining, updating, developing and evaluating the Library's Web site
- Working with Library team improve UX and design of web site
Reference
- 10 hours of individual research assistance per week: in person, online, on the phone
- Community support via LibAnswer tickets and Chat
- Instruction: in collaboration with all Reference team members for in-class instruction, orientations, and intensives
- Instructional content design: creating LibGuides, FAQs, handouts, demo videos and other informational and training materials
- Collection development, as a part of the Library Liaison team efforts
- Promote usage of Library resources
Professional Development
- Stay current with advances and concepts in applicable library fields
- Take trainings and courses on product changes and technical advancements, new concepts as needed.
- Keep position manual and operating procedures up to date.
Other Areas of Responsibility
- Participating in Library, University and Consortial meetings and work groups, as necessary
- Assist in supervision of student staff while on-site
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Minimum of two years related technical and professional experience, preferably in an academic library, with specific skills in the following areas:
- Demonstrated commitment to access, equity, diversity, and inclusion through mitigation of biases inherent in communications, interfaces, systems and policies, through equitable access, collection development, greater accessibility, and technological support.
- Master's degree in library/information services from an ALA-accredited program.
- Experience delivering information literacy instruction and providing reference services, preferably in an academic library.
- Familiarity with library software and applications
- Ability to communicate technical language to a wide audience and ability to communicate effectively in technical language with our IT department and vendors.
- Working within Library's service standards, cooperatively and flexibly in a busy office and across departments, successfully balancing priorities and multitasking.
- Demonstrating professionalism in all communications.
- Collecting and interpreting data on usage, user satisfaction, and institutional goals.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Experience using OCLC WMS, Springshare LibApps, personnel time management software, data entry in resource management system, Ellucian Colleague, or equivalent SIS/higher education ERP.
- Conversant with Copyright law and current interpretations of Fair Use.
