Responsibilities
Mercer University's International and Global Studies (IGS) Department seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Cultural Anthropology. The incumbent will contribute to the development of a new Bachelor of Arts program in Anthropology and support either the Global Development Studies or Global Health Studies program. The preferred geographical area of research is Latin America, the Caribbean, or with indigenous communities. We are especially interested in a candidate whose research focuses on, but is not limited to, one of the following areas: linguistic anthropology, embodiment studies, and environmental anthropology.
Starting Date: August 1, 2023
Duties will consist of teaching seven undergraduate courses per year including a four fields Introduction to Anthropology and courses in the applicant's area of specialization. Strong preference will be given to candidates with interdisciplinary training and a strong interest and desire to contribute to a liberal arts education. The successful candidate will be expected to develop study abroad and/or international service-learning programs, support other departmental programs, encourage undergraduate research, and contribute to the College of Liberal Arts and Science (CLAS) Integrative Studies or Great Books programs.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates will hold a doctorate in anthropology from an accredited college/university. Degree must be completed by the start date noted above. Successful candidates must demonstrate promise of excellence in teaching/mentoring and evidence of scholarly activity.
Additional Information
The IGS department is located in Mercer's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and is an interdisciplinary department that houses undergraduate major/minor programs in Global Health Studies, Global Development, and Anthropology (beginning in Fall 2023), and a minor in Asian Studies. IGS serves over 120 students across its programs.
