The School for International Studies at Simon Fraser University (Vancouver, Canada) invites applications for a full-time tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor with a focus on the Middle East to begin July 15, 2023. We invite applicants with disciplinary training in History, Economics or Anthropology, and research focused on issues of security and conflict, governance, or development in the Middle East.
The successful candidate must hold a PhD in History, Economics or Anthropology or a closely related field by the employment start date; however, PhD candidates with solid indication of imminent completion may be hired at the rank of Instructor and will be promoted to the rank of Assistant Professor upon completion of the PhD. The preferred candidate will draw upon a deep well of regional expertise gained through extensive fieldwork and, ideally, significant first-hand experience in the region. Commitment to public engagement and disseminating research to non-academic audiences and engaging with the policy world will also be considered an asset.
The School for International Studies is an interdisciplinary unit with research and teaching programs focused on peace and security; international development; human rights and international law; and governance and civil society. The normal teaching load for this full-time position is four courses per year, taught in two of three terms, with the third for research.
