General Information
The Department of Sociology & Anthropology at James Madison University is accepting applications for a full-time Administrative Assistant to support JMU's and the College of Arts and Letter's overriding vision by providing all the administrative and clerical support needed for the Sociology and Anthropology Department while serving as department office manager for 23 full time faculty and 2 part-time faculty and supervising 2 student assistants.

Duties and Responsibilities
Primary Purpose of Position:

    Provide for a well-organized office system.
    Maintain appropriate documentation for all department records.
    Assist in management of faculty searches and hiring.
    Schedule and maintain classes.
    Manage all department procurement.
    Ensure that student assistants are well trained and led.
    Maintain all fixed assets to include software and lab equipment.
    Serve as building coordinator for Sheldon Hall.

    Qualifications
    Required:

      Previous administrative experience in an office setting and an understanding of proper office management practices.
      Significant experience with Windows and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams).
      Ability to organize, prioritize and multi-task in a dynamic and fast paced environment.
      Ability to take initiative and work independently or complete a variety of tasks with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
      Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information.
      Demonstrated ability to adapt and learn new systems.
      Excellent time management skills and ability to work independently and proactively.
      Excellent communication skills and demonstrated aptitude for working with diverse populations, including faculty, staff, students, and guests.
      Effective written and oral communication skills and experience communicating with students and faculty.

      Preferred:

        Previous experience working in a higher education environment.
        Knowledge of eVA, PeopleSoft (Student Administration, Finance, HR) AiM, Zoom, JobLink
        High School diploma or equivalent.

        The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as: crime prevention, the university police law enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures, protocols for the immediate notification of students and staff upon confirmation of a significant emergency on campus and other matters of importance related to security and safety. The report includes statistics for the most recent three-year period of reported crimes that have occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by JMU or its affiliates; and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.

        The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes campus housing fire statistics for the most recent three-year period, a description of each on-campus student housing facility fire safety system, the number of fire drills held during the previous calendar year, policies or rules on portable electrical appliances, smoking, and open flames in student housing; and procedures for student housing evacuation in the event of fire along with other fire safety information.
