Job Details

The faculty of the Department of Anthropology at the University of South Carolina, Columbia campus, invite applications for an anthropological archaeologist focusing on the archaeology of the Indigenous Americas. This is a 9-month, full time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin August 16, 2023.

We seek candidates with experience collaborating with Indigenous communities. We also seek those whose research and teaching build upon or expand that of existing faculty in the Department in one or more of the following areas: critical Indigeneity, sovereignty, decolonization, settler-colonialism, rematriation/repatriation, land or heritage stewardship, gender, race, religion, ecology, or social inequality. Methodological expertise is open. The successful candidate must have and maintain an active program of research and demonstrate potential for securing extramural funding. They will be expected to teach large introductory undergraduate courses and courses in their area of specialization, advise undergraduate majors, mentor graduate students, and participate in service duties. A typical teaching load in our Department is two courses per semester. The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. in Anthropology by the time of appointment (ABDs will be considered at time of application).
