POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Departments of Asian American Studies and Science and Technology Studies at the University of California, Davis invite applicants for an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) whose research is situated at the intersection of Asian American studies and science and technology studies (STS).

 

Candidates are sought whose research addresses one or more of the following areas: politics of labor and immigration, transnationalism, digital infrastructures, and knowledge-formations in which science, technology, engineering, and/or medicine are embedded. Applicants should have training in science and technology studies, Asian American studies, and one or more fields of praxis or study concerned with questions of diversity and social justice, including, but not limited to: critical race studies, indigenous studies, feminist studies, postcolonial or decolonial studies, disability studies, gender studies, trans and queer studies, and sexuality studies. The departments are interested in a scholar whose areas of interest include the following research topics as they relate to Asian American communities: science and race; science and justice; colonial and military formations of experimentation; critical data, algorithm, and/or media studies; decolonial technoscience; transpacific scientific communities and/or transpacific high-tech industries; citizen science or popular science in American and global contexts; Asian American futurisms and sociotechnical imaginaries. The successful candidate should complement the strengths and goals of the Asian American Studies and Science Technology Studies Departments at UC Davis.

QUALIFICATIONS

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

 

A promise of or demonstrated record of intellectual distinction and interdisciplinary expertise in the fields of Asian American Studies and Science Technology Studies

 

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a relevant field.

 

Preferred qualifications

Expertise that complements existing department strengths and goals of the Asian American Studies and Science and Technology Studies Departments at UC Davis.

 

Demonstrated excellence in and commitment to teaching and curricular development in Asian American Studies and Science Technology Studies

 

Energetic commitment to, and interest in, collaborating with other academic programs; e.g. cultural studies.
