Position Description
The Department of Anthropology at Texas State University invites applications for a non-tenure track lecturer to begin Fall 2023 (salary range $52,000-$55,000 depending on experience).
The successful candidate will coordinate the department's internship program at the undergraduate and graduate levels and teach classes related to professional development. These duties are integral to the department's focus on training students for their future careers. We are particularly interested in someone who is enthusiastic about helping students understand, and learn, how anthropological methods and theories can be applied in a variety of circumstances and settings.
The responsibilities of the position include:
- Expanding internship opportunities for students.
- Developing and maintaining a pipeline of internship opportunities (i.e. commitments from organizations that will take student interns every semester and/or every summer).
- Promoting the internship program within the department, especially among undergraduates.
- Supervising internships in the BA, MA and PhD programs in the fall and spring semesters. This can also be done in the summer for additional pay.
- Teaching other classes such as the undergraduate course Professionalization in Anthropology during the fall and spring semesters as assigned.

Required Qualifications
M.A. in anthropology at the time of appointment (August 2023).
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in anthropology.
- Experience organizing and managing an internship or related program.
- Current or past employment as an applied anthropologist.
- Familiarity with central Texas.
- Experience teaching in a university setting.
- Experience supervising undergraduate and graduate students.
- Experience with and/or ability to build relationships with non-profits, corporations, and government offices.
- Experience with and/or ability to work with students and faculty across the department's subdisciplines: archaeology, biological anthropology, and cultural anthropology.
- Experience with and/or ability to advance diversity.
