Position Description

 

The Department of  Anthropology at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) invites applications for a Tenure-track position in Medical Anthropology (broadly defined) at the rank of Assistant Professor (Academic Year) with the appointment starting in Fall 2023.

Department of Anthropology

The CSUDH Department of Anthropology offers a major and minor in the discipline with course work in the four anthropological subdisciplines. In addition, courses focus on contemporary disciplinary research, area studies, and societal applications of anthropological knowledge. Majors may choose between the General, Archaeology Biological or Applied concentrations.

The Position

The new hire will have expertise in ANY dimension of medical anthropology that complements existing departmental strengths in sociocultural and biological anthropology. Preference will be given to candidates who focus on health disparities in an urban context, work with living human populations, OR conduct research that complements our program’s emphasis in the interaction between humans and their environments.

 

Responsibilities

Teach general undergraduate courses in more than one of the major subfields (archaeology, cultural, biological, and linguistic). Assist with advising majors, assist in the maintenance of the Applied and/or Biological Concentration in the curriculum, and serve on appropriate departmental, college and university committees.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in Anthropology or closely related field. All requirements for degree conferral must be completed by start of appointment, August 2023.   Evidence of research in or intersecting with medical anthropology. Applicants must have experience in teaching and working with colleagues and students from diverse age, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds. Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching, advising, and scholarly excellence as evidenced by publication record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Have ongoing or strong evidence for potential projects that can foster undergraduate involvement and career opportunities.

Background Check

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment.  CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information.  Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

The certification must translate the information in English, and confirm that your highest terminal degree is US Equivalent to a US terminal degree (i.e., Bachelor’s, Master’s, Doctorate’s, Doctor’s of Philosophy).
