Job Overview

Librarian for History, Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, & Anthropology builds collections, creates e-learning resources, and serves as liaison to these departments. This position provides consultation, instruction, and outreach to the History, WGSS, & Anthropology departments. The librarian develops and delivers innovative data analytics, research, and instructional services to the UC community. The Subject Librarian for History, WGSS, & Anthropology explores trends in research, scholarly communication, data management, and digital scholarship. The librarian contributes to the success and development of library initiatives by participating in library-wide committees and teams. This position operates under the principles of the UC Libraries Strategic Framework: NEXT Directions, which articulates the Guiding Principles and Pathways for the Libraries.

This is a full-time, tenure track faculty position.

Relationship and Authority: Reports to and receives general direction from the Head of the Research, Teaching, and Services Department. Receives guidance from and consults with the Associate Dean of Research and Scholarship on collection matters.

Essential Functions

  • Develops and manages collections for subject areas. Manages fund expenditures for subject areas. Collaborates in cooperative collection development.
  • Serves as liaison and collaborates with subject area faculty to meet their research and teaching needs. Keeps abreast of library services and resources pertaining to liaison areas.
  • Provides instruction for History, Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, and Anthropology faculty, staff, and students. Participates in a wide range of library training and instruction programs.
  • Assists users in finding, acquiring, manipulating, and analyzing data, including the use of statistical software.
  • Identifies, champions, and implements data analysis tools and provides services that meet evolving research needs.
  • Collaborates with other UC librarians and informationists to implement research data management services. Provides support for scholarly communication, digital humanities, and social sciences scholarship.
  • Manages and organizes digital learning resources that engage and support faculty students in learning activities and learning goals.
  • Provides a wide range of reference and research support, particularly for subject areas, including in-person, online, and phone.
  • Participates in developing, implementing and assessing a shared vision for the Research, Teaching, and Services department.
  • Participates in the development of library-wide policies, special projects, procedures, and goals.
  • Participates in library committees, meetings, and workshops as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates ability and interest in fulfilling the University's requirements for tenure and promotion. Commitment to professional growth and development.


Required Education

Master's degree in Library and Information Science/Management or relevant graduate education.

Required Experience

  • Professional experience in an academic or research library.
  • Experience with collection and liaison responsibilities.
