Job Details

We invite applications for the Ida B. Wells-Barnett Post-Doctoral Teaching Fellowship for 2022-23. The fellowship is housed in DePaul University’s Department of African and Black Diaspora Studies.

We welcome applications from PhDs in Black/Africana Studies, humanities or social science fields. Eligibility is restricted to those who have received their PhD no earlier than 2018 and who will have the PhD in hand by July 2022.

Appointment of the Ida B. Wells-Barnett postdoctoral teaching fellow will be for the academic year 2022-2023. The fellowship may be extended for a second year, based on review and budget approval. DePaul University will provide the fellow with a competitive stipend, office space, and modest funds for travel and research. This is also a benefits-eligible position.

Fellows are expected to present their research to the DePaul community and participate meaningfully in the life of the Department of African and Black Diaspora Studies, its students, and the affiliated Center for Black Diaspora. Fellows will also engage students through recruitment, mentorship, and student-facing events.
Ida B. Wells-Barnett fellows will teach three courses in total across the 2022-23 academic year. DePaul’s academic year consists of three ten-week quarters. Specific courses and scheduling will be determined in consultation with the department chair.

This fellowship reflects the University's Vincentian mission, which includes a scholarly commitment to the areas of race, equality, social justice and advocacy for historically oppressed and underserved populations. The Vincentian mission is reinforced by the principles that informed Ida B. Wells-Barnett’s advocacy of civil and human rights for Black people. The ideal candidate for this fellowship will meaningfully balance a clearly defined research agenda with a spirit of advocacy.

DePaul seeks candidates with demonstrated cultural competencies to include teaching, service and research in diverse learning communities.

Review of applications will begin August 8, 2022. All applications must be completed online and should include a cover letter, a current C.V., sample syllabi for two relevant and/or potential undergraduate courses, a statement of teaching philosophy, names and contact information for three references, and a writing sample. Teaching experience in a higher education setting is strongly preferred.

The full job posting and the application portal can be found at http://apply.interfolio.com/108447. Applicants may also visit https://academics.depaul.edu/faculty-jobs/Pages/full-time.aspx and search for the fellowship.
