Position Highlights
Arizona State Museum at the University of Arizona is in search of an Assistant Manager, Permits Office (Cultural Institutions Compliance Professional III). The Assistant Manager, Permits Office position is within the Research Division of the Arizona State Museum (ASM) and is supervised by the Arizona Antiquities Act (AAA) Administrator. The incumbent assists in fulfilling ASM's state mandated responsibilities. In coordination with the AAA Administrator, the incumbent is primarily responsible for the daily operations of the ASM Permits Office, including handling public inquiries, records management, and processing of AAA Permit applications and materials received pursuant to state law.

The ideal candidate for this position is expected to be a self-starter and demonstrate the ability to balance working independently and as part of a team. The successful candidate will exercise judgement in setting daily priorities and a high degree of professionalism, work ethic, and interpersonal engagement with colleagues while working to support ASM's state mandates. Applicants should have an appreciation of the responsibilities involved in administering the elements of the Arizona Antiquities Act.

Duties & Responsibilities
Duties & responsibilities:
Assists the AAA Administrator in processing AAA Permit applications, including reviewing all AAA Blanket and Project-Specific Permit applications for completeness, preparing permits, obtaining necessary signatures, and returning materials to applicants.
Reviews qualifications of prospective Project Directors and Principal Investigators for listing on AAA Permits.
Receives draft reports and project deliverables for work conducted under AAA Permits and ensures that required deliverables are submitted.
Assists the AAA Administrator with report review and provides comments and revision requests.
Assists the AAA Administrator in developing policy and guidelines relevant to the implementation of the AAA.
Maintains paper and electronic records for the Permits Office including quotes, invoices, Notices of Intent, and reports, and works with the University of Arizona Research, Innovation and Impact Business Center.
Assists the AAA Administrator in invoicing tasks.
Orders supplies for the ASM Mandated Programs offices according to established department procedures.
Conducts regular inventory of Permits working files.
Supervises student employees and interns.
Additional duties may be assigned.

Knowledge, skills & abilities:
Knowledge of archaeology and archaeological experience, preferably within the Southwest and with cultural resources management in the United States.
Working knowledge of the Arizona Antiquities Act (A.R.S. * 41-841 through 41-846) ) or similar statutes from another state.
Ability to read USGS 7.5' maps and understanding the UTM & PLSS location systems.
Demonstrable skills working with Microsoft Access and ESRI ArcGIS.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written).
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in anthropology (specializing in archaeology) or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
Minimum of 5 years archaeological experience working with a cultural resources management agency or firm in the United States is required.
Ability to qualify under current Arizona Antiquities Act (AAA) standards as a Project Director for the purposes of a AAA Permit.
Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in anthropology (specializing in archaeology).
Five years of archaeological experience working with a cultural resources management agency or firm.
Research and field experience in the archaeology of the southwestern United States, preferably in the southwestern U.S.
