Position Summary:The UAA College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Anthropology is accepting applications for adjunct instructors. Applicants must be available to work within Alaska during the length of the assignment. The Anthropology undergraduate program provides students with a solid foundation in the contemporary theory and practice of anthropology through lecture courses and instruction that encourage critical thinking and provide opportunities for independent research and fieldwork. Anthropology is about us - all the people of the world. We search for information about modern diseases we've inherited from our ancestors, how governments are run, and why families are more diverse than we see on television, and the causes of domestic violence or addiction. Anthropologists explore how languages affect the way we think and identify ourselves to others, and even the beginnings of language, symbolic thought, and music.
Duties:
100 The incumbent will be responsible for teaching one or more undergraduate courses in a manner consistent with the specific course content guide. Adjunct faculty are expected to be available for student contact and hold office hours appropriate for the course(s) being taught. Essential
Adjunct instructors are hired on a semester-by-semester appointment. Qualified applicants for this position will be placed into a hiring pool from which instructors will be hired as needed. Acceptance into the hiring pool does not constitute an offer of an appointment, nor does having worked one semester guarantee that a position will be available the following semester; hiring decisions are made on a semester-by-semester basis according to the needs of that semester's schedule. Salary is based on the adjunct pay scale as outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement and is dependent on the number of semesters taught within the University of Alaska system. Minimum pay is $1,198.80 per credit.
Adjunct instructors must be available to work within Alaska during the length of the assignment.
To be eligible for this position, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction. Applicants who now or may in the future require visa sponsorship to work in the United States are not eligible.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Applicants must be available to work within Alaska during the length of the assignment. Applicants will be evaluated on the suitability of their academic preparation, past teaching experience, and potential for providing high quality instruction to undergraduate students in a manner consistent with the specific course content guides in the Department of Anthropology.
TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:
Applicants must have expertise and experience relevant to teaching the specific course content. Experience teaching college-level courses in Anthropology or closely related field is preferred.
REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:
The successful candidate will have at least a Masters degree in Anthropology or closely related field. Faculty teaching upper-division courses or graduate courses should hold a terminal degree in the appropriate discipline. A PhD in Anthropology or closely related field is preferred.
Successful applicants must provide official transcripts documenting academic credentials required for the position as a condition of employment.
