Job Details

The Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies (PIIRS) and the High Meadows Environmental Institute (HMEI) at Princeton University invite applications for a postdoctoral or more senior researcher position with the Brazil LAB. One or two postdoctoral fellowships will be awarded to exceptional recent PhDs in the social sciences or humanities who are working on contemporary Brazil (special areas of interest include Amazonian conservation, Indigenous ecologies of knowledges, science communication, racialization, and decolonial literatures). Appointment is for one academic year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year pending satisfactory performance and continued funding. The appointment will be made through the Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies (PIIRS) and the High Meadows Environmental Institute (HMEI). Applicants must demonstrate outstanding scholarly achievement as well as commitment to teamwork and to teaching excellence. A Ph.D. degree is required.

The fellowship's responsibilities include active collaboration in the design and implementation of academic and outreach activities, participation in events, teaching (one semester-long course per year), and advancement of a creative research agenda. In addition, the successful candidate may have the opportunity to advise students in their area of expertise or related areas. When teaching, the successful candidate will carry a secondary teaching rank. Any teaching role is contingent on sufficient course enrollment and prior approval from the Dean of the Faculty. Appointments will be made at the rank of Postdoctoral Research Associate. In addition to salary and benefits, the program will provide the Fellow with a research fund in the amount of $3,000 per year and office space (shared). We look forward to filling this position as soon as possible during the academic year of 2022-2023.

Applicants must apply online at https://www.princeton.edu/acad-positions/position/26383. The following application items are required and should be uploaded by the applicant:

*Cover letter outlining research agenda and commitment to the value of diversity and to inclusive teaching;
*CV; *Writing samples: one chapter of the dissertation or one academic publication related to the dissertation research (in Portuguese or English) and one general media or website publication (essay, op-ed, blog, for example).
*One-page syllabus proposal, with course description, session titles, and key readings;
*Names and email addresses for two referees, who may be invited to upload their confidential letter of recommendation to the online portal.

For fullest consideration applicants should apply by September 1, 2022. Due to the anticipated volume of applications, only final candidates will be contacted.
