Job Details

Assistant Professor of Anthropology

Pitzer College seeks applicants for a tenure-track position in the anthropology of Latin America at the level of assistant or advanced assistant professor. Theoretical specializations are open; we are especially interested in candidates whose work engages global and local social issues from an anthropological perspective. We seek a candidate who will extend, not replicate, fields already covered by anthropology faculty in the Claremont Colleges consortium. The successful candidate would be expected to teach Introduction to Sociocultural Anthropology and be prepared to offer another course required for the major, such as Field Methods in Anthropology. In addition, the candidate is expected to regularly teach a writing-intensive seminar for first-year students.

Pitzer College has a strong institutional commitment to diversity and strongly encourages candidates from underrepresented groups. We favor candidates who can contribute to the College's distinctive educational objectives which promote interdisciplinary perspectives, intercultural understanding, and a concern with social justice and the ethical implications of knowledge and action. Pitzer College is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer. For the successful applicant with relevant interests, affiliations are possible with Claremont consortium departments of Latin American Studies, Chicanx/Latinx Studies, Africana Studies, and/or the intercollegiate Feminist Center for Teaching, Research, and Engagement. A complete application will include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, selected evidence of excellence in teaching and research statement of teaching philosophy, a research statement, a graduate school transcript, and three letters of recommendation. Candidates should also submit a statement in which they address how their cultural, experiential, and/or academic background contributes to the understanding of diversity at the college.

The deadline for applications is August 1, 2022.
