Job Description
We are seeking qualified archaeologists/cultural resource specialists for various assignments, with day-to-day work activities conducted in the office (report/home or company office) or in the field. This would be a full time/regular position. Work conditions can be expected to be primarily office based with approximately 20-25% in a field setting. Work may include both single-day and multiple-day field assignments. Successful applicants should be able to work long days in the field, in a range of seasonal weather conditions, traverse several miles of rough terrain, and carry field gear, and not be opposed to camping (campground and/or primitive) when no hotel accommodations are available due to remoteness of work/project location.

Travel will be required for most projects. Drive time is paid. When working multi-day assignments, employee will be reimbursed for meals, lodging, and mileage, if applicable.

Compensation is based on qualifications and relevant experience.

Responsibilities:

· Assisting with environmental compliance reviews

· Conducting cultural resource surveys, monitoring, and inventory

· Conducting archaeological testing and excavation

· Recording sites and isolates and drafting associated reports and site forms

· Performing archaeological monitoring during construction activities to ensure resource protection measures are being implemented

· Acting as Field Director/Crew Chief or Principal Investigator/Project Director on fieldwork assignments

· Conducting literature reviews and records searches

· Work will primarily be office based with field opportunities; successful applicants should be capable of drafting site forms and reports, agency consultation, and be capable of working long days in the field throughout the year, including single- and multi-day assignments

Skills and Requirements:

· B.S. degree (M.S. preferred) in anthropology, archaeology, or other closely related field

· Proficiency in prehistoric and/or historic archaeology in applicable state(s) and region

· Proficiency in report writing and site form preparation in applicable state(s) and region

· Minimum of 2-year professional experience in archaeological fieldwork, including at least 4 months of regional experience in prehistoric and historic archaeology, to include site recordation, survey, and excavation

· Meets the Secretary of the Interior professional qualifications standards and BLM permitting standards for Field Director/Crew Chief or Principal Investigator/Project Director

· Proficiency with standard field equipment and technology, including digital documentation

· Ability to support proposal efforts, including planning and budgeting

· Ability to perform work duties independently and efficiently with short deadlines, as well as working in a team setting

· Ability to interact and coordinate with federal, state, local, and tribal agencies

· Organized, motivated, thorough, accurate, dependable, and trustworthy

· Reliable personal vehicle, excellent navigational skills, and a good driving record

Experience in the following is preferred:

· Proficiency with sub-meter GPS

· Permitted or permittable in applicable state(s) and on agency lands as a Field Director/Crew Chief or Principal Investigator/Project Director

· Previous NHPA, NEPA, FERC, and/or other cultural or environmental trainings

· Strong writing and editing skills

· Familiarity with typical transmission or electrical utility operations and maintenance activities

· Familiarity with compliance inspection contracting for large projects

· Familiarity with ESRI GIS applications (including desktop, ArcGIS, Collector, Survey123, etc.)

· Experience driving a four-wheel drive vehicle off-road or in rough terrain

· Experience working around heavy machinery and communicating with field and construction crews
