Pax Environmental, Inc. is seeking to hire a qualified Associate Archaeologist.

Location: Our office is located in Ojai, CA. All work will be done remotely in the field. Candidates residing in the Central California region with full availability and ability to travel regionally are strongly preferred.

DUTIES:

The Associate Archaeologist will conduct inspections, monitoring and assessments for archaeological sites and lead field crews on large survey/monitoring projects under the direction of senior staff. Job duties may include artifact processing and analysis; participating in excavation; organizing survey reports and site records; updating databases and filling out site forms in support of SHPO and NHPA reporting requirements; converting legacy data to digital formats; training staff in basic archaeological practices; entering data into GIS; performing subsurface testing and surface surveys for site evaluation; emergency response to wildland fire infrastructure restoration; Class III cultural resource inventory; Class I surveys; long term remote projects.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

• Demonstrated ability to design and supervise complex archaeological fieldwork, perform technical analyses and prepare reports;

• Demonstrated ability to collect and manage field data using GPS device;

• Ability to liaise effectively with clients, agency representatives, construction contractors, tribal monitors, and other project stakeholders;

• Proficient grasp of CRM laws and regulations;

• Ability to oversee multiple projects and function as integral team leader and member;

• Strong technical writing skills; and

• Expertise in Pax service area/California region highly desired.

• Communicate effectively with project managers, construction crews, and other field staff to complete reporting requirements

• Understanding of project environmental requirements and associated laws protecting archaeological resources

• Maintain flexibility as project demands change

• Complete a background check satisfactorily

• Required to lift up to 25 pounds.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Advanced degree in anthropology, archaeology, historical archaeology, or related field required.

• Experience guiding a variety of projects and interfacing with clients and personnel at varying levels will be highly valued.

Minimum of 2 years of demonstrable, progressively responsible employment in CRM .

• Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA) certification desired.
