Position Highlights
As a project archivist (Curatorial/Museum Specialist) with the School of Information, the qualified applicant will work as a Curatorial Assistant I (Curatorial/Museum Specialist) for the National Park Service (NPS) Intermountain Region Museum Services Program in the Archives and Records Management Division, located in Tucson, AZ. The ability to demonstrate flexibility in work flows and to tackle a variety of record and collection types is required.

The primary responsibility of the Curatorial Assistant I is to process, arrange and catalog resource management based records from a variety of park units in the Intermountain Region and to prepare finding aids to facilitate research of collections. Resource management records include natural and cultural resource project records, programmatic records, and records documenting daily administrative activities of various park units.

The Curatorial Assistant I will conduct archival tasks in accordance with records management policies set forth by the Federal Government and the NPS as well as standards set forth by the Society of American Archivists. Experience with properly identifying and completing necessary storage upgrade requirements for archival preservation of all material types (photographs, maps/drawings, textual records) is helpful. In addition, the Curatorial Assistant I should have familiarity with cataloging software particularly with the use of the NPS Integrated Collections Management System (ICMS).

This position is duty-stationed at the Western Archeological and Conservation Center (WACC) in Tucson, AZ but requires the ability to travel, either by flying or driving, to IMR park units to complete a variety of tasks on-site for a one to two week period. Travel may be in remote areas, with minimal amenities. The qualified applicant should be able to demonstrate ability to work closely in a team setting to complete projects in a specific timeframe and adapt to the necessary work and travel conditions.

Duties & Responsibilities
Identifying park service materials that have permanent value
Properly processing, arranging, and cataloging park service archival records into the NPS Integrated Collections Management System (ICMS)
Handling rare and fragile photographic-based materials and oversize maps and drawings
Properly identifying preservation needs of paper-based and digitally-based archival records

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Ability to work as part of a team in completing assignments both at WACC as well as at selected NPS units
Familiarity with National Park Service policies and procedures including Director's Order 19 (Records Management), the National Park Service's Museum Handbook, NPS-28 (Cultural Resources Guidelines) and NPS-77 (Natural Resources Guidelines)
Knowledge of the National Park Service's Integrated Cataloging Management Software (ICMS)
Knowledge of Voyager library program and Library of Congress cataloging principles
Knowledge of archival principles set forth by the Society of American Archivist sand other leading institutions
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
Valid Driver's License and ability to drive according to the University .
Must be able to travel to various NPS sites to complete archival work on-site, as needed.
Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree or higher in Anthropology, Art History, Museum Studies, or related field.
One or more years of museum curatorial and/or registration experience.
Experience with properly identifying and completing necessary storage upgrade requirements for archival preservation of all material types (photographs, maps/drawings, textual records)
