The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at James Madison University invites applications for a one year visiting position in cultural anthropology at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2022. Area of specialization is open but possible areas of teaching and research include race and ethnicity, public health, applied anthropology, and /or social or environmental justice. Preference given for candidates who do not replicate the geographic focuses of existing faculty.
The Department of Sociology and Anthropology consists of 22 full-time faculty, 13 in Sociology and 9 in Anthropology. The Anthropology program is committed to four-field undergraduate teaching. The faculty are active in professional fields at the national and international level and are dedicated to excellence in undergraduate education.
Duties and Responsibilities: Teaching duties include a large introductory course in cultural anthropology and one upper level course in the candidate’s area of specialization per semester.
Qualifications: A Ph.D. by time of appointment is preferred. We are especially interested in candidates who have a demonstrated commitment towards building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment. Candidates must demonstrate their potential to teach in both small and large classroom settings.
