About this Position:
Director, UX Research & Design
United States | Remote
Role / Responsibilities:
Establish a comprehensive research and design discipline within Riverbed to introduce and lead user-focused innovation and customer value design.
Build a team of user researchers and designers that will help to define and deliver future Riverbed products with thoughtful and tested user experiences.
Fiercely advocate and negotiate for the user. Socializing and engaging peers and stakeholders to raise the bar and build using user-centered mental models.
Demonstrate an understanding of business objectives and how to balance them with research and design of user needs.
Develop, lead, and conduct quantitative and qualitative user research and use learned insights to advocate for customers, ensuring that their needs are properly understood and integrated into the product development cycle.
Provide creative thought leadership by defining innovative solutions that solve complex business issues and provide exceptional experiences for customers.
Use storytelling, journey maps, storyboards, and prototypes to convey the vision, flow, and features of products being created.
Successfully work with product managers, program managers, and engineering to ensure accountability and move your solutions from concept to production.
Work on several projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines.
Develop deliverables such as sketches, wireframes, mockups, user flows, and interactive prototypes to communicate, story tell, and meet business needs and requirements.
Experience / Qualifications:
Candidates should possess existing skills and/or qualifications in the following areas:
MS or PhD in a human behavior-related field (e.g. Human Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, Information Science, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics) or equivalent experience
Knowledge and experience with applied qualitative and quantitative research methods including generative, formative, and evaluative methods (e.g. contextual inquiry, cognitive walkthroughs, ethnographic research, usability testing, card sorting, experimental design, A/B testing, parametric/non-parametric statistical tests, and persona/archetype development
Built and managed a team of 3-5 (or more) UX researchers and designers in a high tech software company.
Knowledge and experience in data analytics and machine learning.
Experience and working understanding of both research and design frameworks with ability to operate both as an individual contributor and team manager.
