As Digital Accessibility Specialist , you seek to understand the jobs our users have and the work they do, record their frustrations, and conceptualize their mental models. You find opportunities to ask questions and seek answers. You will recommend best practices for working with users from both an accessibility and usability standpoint. With a focus on accessibility for this role, you will be expected to be the authority on accessibility standards, best practices, and the experience of having these impairments in the design and development process.

**What You'll Be Doing**

* Creating a research plan to identify what data to collect, who will be involved, how to analyze the data, and why it will be helpful
* Working with design, development, and product teams to better understand our responsibility toward a broader, more inclusive design philosophy of our products
* Coordinating with business stakeholders to improve product accessibility and usability
* Assessing our software accessibility and usability making recommendations for enhancements based on Section 508, Canada's Bill C-81, WCAG, and so forth
* Authoring Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPAT)
* Maintain a roadmap of products to evaluate and work with the product team to make enhancements to the products based on those evaluations
* Analyze the data collected and describe recommendations for future design/development work to address any deficiencies found in the testing
* Advocating for users of all capabilities at CBORD and Horizon Software
* Utilizing and training others on tools such as JAWS, WAVE, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack, etc.

**What You'll Bring to the Table**

* A bachelor's degree or above in Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, or another related field is preferred
* At least 4 years of experience as a user researcher or comparable experiences is preferred
* High-quality samples of previous writing, presentations, and/or prior research
* Ability to deliver on both extended and tight time frames
* Ability to present your work to a co-functional team in a coherent and easily digestible manner
* An inquisitive nature that seeks not just solutions, but also new unrealized problems
* Self-starter related to tasks, requests, and documentation
* Knowledge maintaining or contributing to product roadmaps
* Entrepreneurial mentality to tackle a variety of duties, challenges, and opportunities
* Comprehension of basic UI and UX best practices
* Skilled at visually representing complex data, findings, and insights
* Skilled at qualitative coding techniques and analysis
* Experience at conducting rigorous formal and relaxed informal usability evaluations and at knowing when each approach would be appropriate would be a bonus
* Experience at conducting discovery work through site and workflow observations or interviews with stakeholders would be a bonus
* Adept at facilitating workshops and stakeholder meetings
* Skilled at educating and guiding others (researchers, designers, product folk) in performing effective accessibility planning and analysis

**What's Good to Know**

* This position may between 10-25% travel per quarter (approximately 1.5-3 weeks per quarter).
* Our team is partially composed of remote team members, including some outside the US. It may be necessary for occasional meetings outside normal working hours.
* You will need to be comfortable interacting with customers and end users.
