**Job Summary**

Provides technical and scientific leadership to those designing, and implementing technical strategies, programs or tools in Social and Behavior Change (SBC) with a focus on integrating a wide range of behavioral science-based approaches (including but not limited to behavioral economics). Provides technical support to apply behavioral science tools and approaches to generate and apply behavioral insights to SBC intervention design and implementation. Strengthens the capacity of country-level, regional or global program staff and partners to apply behavioral science tools and approaches. Provides technical support to design and implement formative behavioral assessments and rapid experiments to inform intervention design and implementation strategies. May evaluate SBC proposal design and protocol development to ensure design is sound and based upon evidence-based practice. Provides global scientific leadership by staying current of behavioral sciences tools and approaches. Responsible for sharing best practices in behavioral science and contributes to the knowledge base through participation in scientific forums and technical networks. Shares new knowledge/evidence and best practices through collaboration with relevant departments and personnel and through global technical leadership tools for SBC practitioners.

**Responsibilities**

* Provide technical assistance to in-country project teams and partners in SBC strategy design, implementation, and evaluation.
* Support country programs and partners to understand and apply behavioral science tools and approaches to select and integrate evidence-based behavior change techniques into interventions.
* Conduct assessments of country counterpart and implementing partner competences and activities to identify needs and inform technical assistance plans to improve capacity to apply behavioral science tools and approaches.
* Provide technical leadership to design and implement formative assessments to understand and monitor drivers of behaviors of interest, including cognitive biases.
* Support programs to design and implement experiments (e.g., randomized controlled trials, A/B test) to quickly evaluate the impact of behaviorally-informed interventions.
* Responsible for establishing standards for the mainstreaming of behavioral science tools and approaches, and developing tools and systems to enable their application across existing and future SBC programs.
* Participate and lead new business development activities.
* Responsible for accomplishing assigned job responsibilities and following the standards and practices of the department and division.
* Responsible for planning and scheduling own work flow and timetables, within area and function guidelines.
* Identifies areas for improved efficiency or effectiveness within prescribed parameters, and institutes enhancements to procedures.
* Maintains a constructive dialogue and technical exchange with FHI 360 behavioral scientists, field counterparts and technical staff of implementing partners.
* Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with donor/client organizations, relevant government agencies, bilateral and other NGOs.
* Develops tools for the design and implementation of specific technical components.
* Ensures that project implementation adheres to the appropriate global strategy and remains technically sound.

**Requirements**

**Education**

* Master's degree in Applied Social or Behavioral Science (e.g., Psychology, Sociology, Industrial/Organizational Behavior, Public Health, Anthropology), Behavioral Economics, Neuroscience, or related field. PhD preferred.

**Experience**

* 8 years of relevant senior experience in behavioral science technical direction to development projects and/or programs, including strategy design.
* Experience designing and implementing formative assessments (i.e., surveys, interviews, focus groups).
* Strong experience either conducting primary or secondary assessments (qualitative, quantitative, mixed methods), including experience working in data analysis software, such as ATLAS.ti, NVivo, or similar, and SAS, R, or similar.
* Demonstrated experience strengthening the capacity of others to apply behavioral science tools and approaches to strengthen program design and implementation.
* Demonstrated experience providing technical assistance to projects to ensure high quality outputs and impact, set realistic priorities, and plan for the successful implementation of behavioral science tools and approaches.
* New business development experience.
* Proficient writing and verbal communication skills.
* Relevant computer software skills (including, at a minimum, the standard applications in MS Office).
* Ability to read, write and speak fluent English. French strongly preferred.
* Experience applying knowledge of SBC to solve range of problems.

* Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
* Ability to move 5 - 25 lbs.
