**Job Duties** :

This position will serve as the part-time Store Assistant in the store of the Historic Arkansas Museum. Responsibilities include greeting visitors, interpreting the museum's mission through store products, facilitating sales, receiving new merchandise, and maintaining clean, attractive and organized displays. Position will also assist with marketing the store's brand through digital content and social media accounts; maintain accurate daily record of store sales; assist with selection of products focused on the mission of the museum, particularly Arkansas made arts and crafts, and proprietary product development.

Position is limited to 79 hours per calendar month and will be required to work weekday, weekend, holiday and after-hours. Position is not eligible for benefits.

**Applicants must meet or exceed these qualifications** : Education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus three years of experience in a specialized area applicable to work performed.

**Preferred qualifications:** Retail experience and customer relations; Experience or skill in the creative presentation of products.

**Summary**

The Museum Program Assistant II is responsible for assisting in museum program development, operation, and coordination activities. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

**Functions**

Prepares written information concerning scheduled museum events and disseminates material and brochures to inform teachers of museum educational programs for students. Assists in the production of program publications, including press releases and other publicity materials, by contacting individuals to write or assist with writing of articles, and assists in the development of program aids and props. Assists with the coordination and promotion of special events of the agency and maintains contact between visitors and agency personnel for upcoming events/visits. Coordinates activities of volunteers by planning, assigning, and reviewing work, contacts and corresponds with volunteers to provide information concerning agency programs and needs, and secures their assistance for special events and fund-raising activities. Recruits new members and donors by contacting individuals through email and phone calls, provides program membership information, and maintains contact with current members. Researches agency collections and historical events for curatorial and exhibit staff and maintains research files, slides, and research and resource libraries. Schedules and conducts guided tours of historic buildings/sites and organizes and oversees activities during special events. Performs other duties as assigned.

**Minimum Qualifications**

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in history, education, anthropology, or a related area. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.
