The Innovation Strategist will be a member of a multi-skilled team that helps solve some of the most complex problems in healthcare. The Innovation Strategist will lead the development of strategies that are of high institutional value. The Innovation Strategist will work with senior level stakeholders to better understand, and help lead the vision for solving, high priority issues that the institution faces today to better enable MD Anderson to meet its mission. The Innovation Strategist will be a senior member of the Innovation Center and will be expected to contribute to the future vision of the Innovation Center's strategic plan and will be critical in evangelizing innovation throughout MD Anderson.

What will you be doing?
Innovation Strategists are primary responsible for the project delivery as a day-to- day engagement leader (with Director oversight) and guide designers. You will build relationships with clients while advising and supporting the design innovation team with leadership and hands-on engagement. You will work across every stage of the project lifecycle to ensure that concepts and design decisions are sensitive to the needs of the users. You should be eager to involve stakeholders in the design process.
As an Innovation Strategist you will be responsible for the ongoing development of a world-class human-centered design discipline at MD Anderson. You will work within a multi-disciplined team that turns human insights into strategic initiatives, services, and experiences. In this role, you will gather and synthesize qualitative and quantitative research to develop deliverables on large/complex projects. These insights will be used to in designing new experiences, prototypes, presentations and strategies.
*You have the uncanny ability to connect deeply with people, articulating insights and creating plans and strategies that balance business needs with physical and emotional needs.
The Innovation team will rely on you to:
• Lead and create experience model development (e.g., user experience, customer journeys, behavioral archetypes, service blueprints, prototypes etc.) working across the service components, digital and visual language expressions and strategic frameworks.
• Drive the design of systemic interventions in complex, multi-partner ecosystems.
• Lead and create User experiences, design systems, holistic design solutions from early-stage idea generation until detailed design of service features, user stories and design for communicating visual storytelling, digital product development and prototype testing.
• Balance functional clarity and emotional impact. You will be the backbone of your project from beginning to end.
• Lead a project to achieve the highest level of performance without compromising timeline and team harmony.
• Lead narratives that tell visually engaging stories with the audience and objectives in mind.
• Look beyond point solutions and apply design-led thinking to deliver new multi-channel design ecosystems and create the future of healthcare at MD Anderson.
• Establishing research methods and strategies within a cross functional innovation team.
• Independently conduct research, through independent data research and/or user shadowing and interviewing, to identify business problems which require innovative solutions.
• Build consumer empathy and emotionally connect to the lives of the people we serve.
On a typical project you will:
• Lead and design strategic vision concepts, digital products and prototypes to communicate new ideas, experiences and strategies.
• Lead and create convergent experience concepts, user and visual experiences, interactions and design concepts that push the bar for quality and excellence.
• Create design thinking experiential education and training
• Support the definition of new services/ products value proposition and implementation road maps.
• Design narratives that help tell the story of the work in a meaningful way.
• Create project/team statements of work and schedules and ensure associated personal/team quality, cost and timeliness requirements are met.
• Plan and lead co-creation of workshop with stakeholders, partners and customers to drive the analysis of current services and the design of improved/ new services.
• Create and test prototypes to gain insights into assumptions, questions and transformation.
• Develop digital products
• Work at varying level of fidelity to test isolated assumptions and holistic services.
• Drive operational excellence and efficiency, delivering design quality within project parameters.
• Provide design thought leadership to senior and leadership stakeholders and actively drives co-creation approaches between design and other stakeholders.
• Lead and mentor designers.
Education Required:
Bachelor's degree
Preferred Education:
Degree in Human Centered Design, Graphic Design, Interaction Design, Communications, Applied Social Sciences,Anthropology, Journalism or related field.
Experience Required:
Ten years of progressive experience in a consulting, healthcare innovation, healthcare consulting, human centered design or market analysis role, with preferred degree, eight years of experience.
Preferred Experience:
• Ten years of experience in human-centered design
• A related design discipline (e.g., UX/ UI design, Experience Design, Service Design, Visual Communication Design, Design Strategy, Design Research, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, Instructional Design).
• A related research and behavioral science discipline (e.g., design research, sociology, psychology, anthropology)
• Related experience in education (e.g., design education, instructional design)
• Strategic business consulting, marketing communications, or related field.
• With preferred master's degree, four years of experience as listed above.
• Translation of high-level ideas into unique visual directions.
• Link or PDF of portfolio of recent work.
