Your Career
Palo Alto Networks is building a world-class UX team and we are looking for a Senior Staff User Researcher who is experienced in qualitative and quantitative research methods to influence business and product decisions. You'll use design thinking methods, in-depth interviews, contextual inquiries, usability testing, A/B testing, competitive research and large and small-scale surveys to make an impact.
As a Staff User Researcher in the Product Strategy & Operations, Central UX and Engineering team, you will understand and document user personas across all products and create user-journey maps across products to unearth opportunities for improvements. You will work on strategic research projects like conduct competitive research and lead usage telemetry (Pendo) initiatives to help products make more informed design decisions. You will also conduct design system research and usability testing of design system components in collaboration with product designers and product researchers. You will also help establish the design research best practices and evangelize design research throughout the company.
Your Impact
- Partner with designers and engineers to identify and prioritize opportunities where research can help improve a design decision or customer experience or to inform a strategic decision
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of strengths and weaknesses of different research methods, including when and how to apply them during each product phase
- Lead all aspects of a research project including: Meet with stakeholders, scope projects, choose methodologies, create research plans, write discussion guides, lead interview sessions, synthesize findings into meaningful themes, and write actionable and impactful reports
- Analyze and compile usage data telemetry across all products and become an expert/go-to person for cross product usability metrics
- Document personas and user journey maps of all products
- Conduct regular product and design system competitive analysis
- Participate in design workshops/network groups to present research, telemetry, competitive and/or testing data
- Compile and present findings to stakeholders in a clear, actionable, and compelling way
- Advocate for research best practices across the company
- Mentor and coach early career designers/researchers on the team
- Handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
- Work collaboratively within the team and across product teams
Your Experience
- B.A./B.S. in Psychology, Human Factors, HCI, Design, Computer Science, or Social Sciences, Anthropology, or equivalent
- 5+ years conducting research for both digital products and experiences
- Track record of using foundational, formative, and evaluative research methods such as: in-depth-interviews, ethnographic-style fieldwork, surveys, testing of early designs and prototypes, usability studies (remote/in lab), basic quantitative analyses, A/B testing
- Experience combining quantitative and quantitative research methodologies
- Experience balancing multiple varied projects at once while performing at a high level
- Leading design thinking and research related workshops
- Ability to work independently with little direct supervision and take initiative to solve problems
- A strong grasp on how to clearly, concisely, and persuasively communicate research findings
- Experience leading research projects that have had lasting impact on product and design decisions
- Experience with usage telemetry data tools like Pendo a plus
