This "Next Horizon" of MetLife's enterprise strategy is rooted in customer intimacy, informed by data analytics, and enabled by digital capabilities. Financial Wellness and Engagement (FW&E) is a new division created within the U.S. Business to bring this vision to life. Our focus is on deepening our relationships with our customers, both through existing MetLife products and services in our Group Benefits and Retirement & Income Solutions business lines as well as through new, innovative solutions based on emergent workforce needs.

Key to the Next Horizon strategy is building lifelong relationships with MetLife's end customers through deep engagement. FW&E aims to accomplish this by providing highly valuable experiences, delivered through a first of its kind, financial wellness solution, to its customers through a modern digital platform and ecosystem. This digital solution, Upwise, will provide Employers with an opportunity to solve the engagement gap across their existing benefit offerings while providing their employees and other individuals with the tools necessary to make progress on their financials that feels good and allows them to free up dollars to put towards what matters most.

The Role:

Key Relationships:
  • Reports to Upwise's head of design.
  • Work closely with our product managers, designers and growth marketing team to uncover insights and drive engagement strategies, product decisions, and features.
  • Work with our support team to uncover the root causes of issues and provide insight on how to iterate to solve those issues.
  • Aid our business intelligence team by providing qualitive research to bolster their quantitative understanding.


What Success Looks Like:

Success in your first 6 months will look like:
  • Creating concept, usability, and a/b tests protocols
  • Lead generative research studies for new product features, iterations and user engagement across eco-system
  • Deploy a mix of new methodologies, beyond the usability test and user interview to generate insights and validate hypotheses.

  • Behave like an anthropologist. Observe and learn from our users. Study not only their behaviors, but their culture, social norms, routines, and values.
  • Wear your detective hat. Interrogate user and product problems. Understand their root cause, collect the facts, and develop hypotheses.
  • Direct and truthful. The Upwise team is efficient and shoots it straight.
  • Grit and optimism to drive the right outcomes. We are the spear tip in the digital transformation of a 153-year-old organization.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Create and own Upwise's research roadmap. Work with your product managers, design and growth marketing team to identify, prioritize and scope research.
  • Design and execute research studies. Choose the right methods for the job.
  • Expand research beyond yourself. Educate and guide the product teams to perform research on their own.


Competencies / Skills:
  • A deep understanding of various research methods. Both qualitative and quantitative.
  • Storytelling. You must be able to translate raw research and insights into a compelling story for stakeholders.
  • The ability to utilize insights to bolster or adjust Upwise's product strategy and roadmap.


Qualifications:
  • 4+ years of experience in insights and user experience research
  • Degree in Human Computer Interaction, Psychology, Anthropology, or a related field
  • Knowledge of a set of qualitative, quantitative and user-centered design methods

Location: NYC preferred but open to US Region

The wage range for this position specific to Connecticut and Colorado is $107k - $134k/year. You may be also eligible for the MetLife Annual Variable Incentive Plan ("AVIP"). Your eligibility for an AVIP award is governed by the terms of the applicable plan or program documents.
