Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is looking for an experienced, motivated, creative, and customer-focused UX researcher to help impact the future of our customer facing website and web-based applications. You will have the opportunity to establish research methods and lead research with demonstrable impact on customer engagement. You will work alongside UI/UX Designers, Full-Stack Developers, SEO specialists, and Content Creators. We will look to you to help provide insights to inform them on how to meet the current and emerging needs of customers and create more informed and effective user experiences.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- End-to-end development of products with world-class user experience.
- Carry out complex projects and/or UX project planning and leadership.
- Model open collaboration, critique, and communication.
- Influence the user experience direction for R&D projects.
- Expertly apply user experience research principles & techniques.
- Expertly apply user experience validation principles & techniques.
- Develop expertise in at least one SEL-specific problem domain.
- Participate in the ideation and review phases of UX design.
- Expertly compose and communicate research and validation findings to influence stakeholders.
- Research solutions to a wide range of complex problems requiring UX creativity and ingenuity.
- Work under general guidance, participate in determining plan and schedule for UX projects.
- Review internal UX process documentation.
- Follow and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles
- Understand. Create. Simplify.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- BA/BS degree in human factors, psychology, sociology, anthropology, human computer interaction or a related field or equivalent practical experience.
- 6+ years Demonstrable experience in research contributing to the design of successful digital products and services.
- Expert in UX research principles and techniques.
- Expert in UX validation principles & techniques.
- Broad understanding of the user experience design process, including how to participate and integrate research and validation.
- Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills.
- Ability to learn new skills, assume new responsibilities, and learn sophisticated problem domains.
- Background check results satisfactory to SEL.
- Negative drug test result(s)
Preferred Qualifications
- MA or MS or PhD in a related field.
- Demonstrated experience adapting general UX techniques to specific development processes.
- Experience with UX research in sophisticated problem domains.
- Experience with UX research in a business-to-business environment.
