What is Milieu Therapy? A type of inpatient therapy, used in psychiatric hospitals, involving prescription of particular activities and social interactions according to a patient's emotional and interpersonal needs. Milieu therapy seeks to control your environment to keep you safe, improve your ability to learn new mental health skills, and encourage attitudes like respect and positivity. What is a Milieu Therapist? The MT assists individuals with crisis intervention, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, or mental health and behavioral disorder recovery. They may work with individuals with substance abuse issues, much like a certified addiction counselor, but they are not qualified or licensed to provide treatment independent of a doctor or psychologist. Responsibilities: 1. Facilitate or co-facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic activity groups effectively
2. Encourage or assist patients to perform activities of daily living
3. Accompany patients to out-of-building activities and appointments
4. Manage crisis situations effectively using positive approaches.
5. Demonstrate effective milieu management skills, which promote positive patient experiences.
6. Provide clinical interventions assessed by client needs
7. Coordinate patient groups and activities
8. Completes 1:1 meetings with assigned patients to assess how they are currently doing
9. Complete observations of patients as ordered, following all guidelines Must Haves: Education: Bachelor's Degree in a Human Services field such as from an accredited College or University required. Other fields of study may be considered with coursework of at least 12 credits in Human Services. Approved Human Services Degrees: Nursing, Child Development, Community Mental Health, Pastoral Counseling, Counseling, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work, Education, Sociology, Special Education, Music Therapy, Art/Dance Therapy, Audiology, Nutrition, Anthropology, Occupational Therapy, Chemical Dependence Administration, Physical Therapy, Recreational Therapy, Divinity/Religion/Theology, Drama Therapy, Gerontology, Health Administration, Speech Pathology, Health Education, Vocational Counseling.
Licensure: N/A
Certification:
-Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)(will be a part of orientation of candidate doesn't have this)
-Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC) - CCM training is required within 30 days of hire and annually thereafter
-Will gain clearance in the following upon starting with UPMC:
-Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting
-Act 33 with renewal
-Act 34 with renewal
-Act 73 FBI Clearance
-Valid/current driver's license for certain units
Experience: Entry Level Position, Open to New Grads Plusses: Mental Health experience preferred.

Job Requirements:
  • Perform group therapy, family therapy and individual therapy
  • Complete group therapy, individual and family therapy sessions
  • Provide individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy and crisis intervention
  • Provide assessment, parenting interventions, day to day support to home visitors
  • Conduct individual and group therapy sessions according to treatment plans
  • Providing individual, group and family therapy services
  • Provide individual/family therapy sessions and crisis intervention
  • Provide crisis intervention, individual therapy, short-term family therapy, group therapy, treatment planning and discharge planning
  • Provide group, individual, and family therapy
  • Provide group therapy services to patients
  • Facilitate group therapy, family therapy, and individual therapy sessions and documents appropriately in the interdisciplinary progress notes
  • Conducting individual and family therapy sessions related to coordinating treatment and discharge activities
  • Provide individual therapy services to patients
  • Provide direct clinical services, including individual, group, and family therapy
  • Arrange proper family therapy intervention
  • Administer or recommend individual therapy or other forms of treatment
  • Provide individual and family therapy and care coordination
  • Meet the Performance Specifications set forth by the state
  • Provide individual, group and family therapy with assigned residents
  • Provide group therapy and on occasion individual and family therapies
