The Department of Anthropology at Appalachian State University invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track faculty position in archaeology at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning 08/01/2022. The requirements for the position are Ph.D. in anthropology and the capacity to develop an undergraduate archaeological field school in North America. Candidates who are ABD will be considered, but the position requires completion of all doctoral requirements in anthropology by the date of appointment.

We seek a dynamic, student-centered teacher-scholar committed to training undergraduate students in the classroom, lab, and field. Geographic, temporal, and methodological specializations are open. We are interested in candidates whose interests complement those of existing faculty and resources, and who share our department’s collective commitment to transformative justice, inclusion, and equality. Instructional duties will include a 3:3 teaching load of introductory and upper-level undergraduate courses and undergraduate advising during the academic year. The successful candidate is expected to also teach a five-week archaeological field school every other summer for additional salary. Faculty members are expected to maintain an active program of scholarship and to participate in service activities.

Please submit:

(3) List of three references with contact information.
