International/Global Studies

The Croft Institute for International Studies at the University of Mississippi (www.croft.olemiss.edu) invites applications for two tenure-track positions as Croft Assistant Professors to begin in August 2022. The Croft Institute, a signature program on campus, administers the interdisciplinary major in International Studies within the College of Liberal Arts. The appointment will be joint between the Croft Institute and a social science department, with the latter being the tenure home.

We seek candidates with a research focus on the environment, migration, health, and/or resource conflict that will help the Institute to strengthen the global perspective within the international studies major. We explicitly encourage applications from candidates with a cross-regional research agenda who are also prepared to contribute to our regional concentrations in Latin America or the Middle East/North Africa and possess the foreign language proficiency to conduct research in Spanish or Arabic, respectively.

The successful candidates must hold a Ph.D. by the time of hire and must provide evidence of excellent teaching. They are expected to teach interdisciplinary classes at the introductory and upper level for the Croft Institute as well as undergraduate and graduate courses for the co-hiring social science department. The ability to teach quantitative or qualitative methods classes will be an asset.

Teaching and service responsibilities will be shared between Croft and the co-hiring department. Croft faculty are expected to advise senior theses starting in their second year. The teaching load will be either 3-2 or 2-2 depending on the standard in the co-hiring department.

Interested applicants should apply online at https://careers.olemiss.edu by submitting a letter of interest, curriculum vita, a statement of current and projected research interests, evidence of teaching effectiveness, and list of references with contact information for three people. Please direct additional questions to the chair of the committee, Dr. Joshua First (jfirst@olemiss.edu).

Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Salary is competitive. Women and minorities are especially encouraged to apply. The University of Mississippi is an EOE/AA/Minorities/Females/Vet/Disability/Sexual Orientation/Gender Identity/Title VI/Title VII/Title IX/504/ADA/ADEA employer.
