Join Cardno's Science and Environment group to play an integral role in our Cultural Resources Team in California and Nevada. We are seeking an innovative and motivated team member to support our growing cultural resources program that currently supports a variety of clients and projects including statewide utility compliance programs, hydroelectric relicensing studies, and implementation of programmatic cultural resource management plans.

Cardno is seeking numerous Archaeological Field Directors reporting to either our Sacramento, Reno, Bishop, and Glendale Offices. We are looking for Archaeological Field Directors who are ideally located in the central valley/ central California foothills, northern California and Southern California regions to support our growing business in these areas.

Job Description:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Support Cultural Resources Program and Project Managers by assisting with project planning and logistics and supervising cultural staff during fieldwork and reporting. Assist with production of technical reports, research designs and treatment recommendations as well as maintaining cultural resource files. Assist in evaluations of historic properties for the National Register of Historic Places. Qualified applicants should exhibit good leadership qualities, strong technical skills, ability to learn and follow direction, good communication skills, and feel comfortable making technical decisions in the field.

Basic Qualifications:

* Master's degree in Anthropology or closely related field (e.g., anthropology/archeology) and 8 plus years of experience

* Demonstrated working knowledge and experience (at least 1 year) with state and federal laws pertaining to protection and management of cultural resources;
* Section 106 of National Historic Preservation Act and National Environmental Policy Act, especially as these relate to federal energy projects

* CEQA as it applies to cultural resources

* Implementation of Historic Properties Management Plans

* Strong writing skills; verified experience as primary or secondary author on Archaeological Study Reports, research designs, NRHP evaluations and Historic Properties Management Plans accepted by the Office of Historic Preservation (OHP) and other federal and state agencies (writing samples will be requested from qualified applicants)

* Proficient in Trimble sub-meter GPS unit or equivalent and associated software

* Demonstrated field supervisory skills and experience with both small and large archaeological crews

* Ability to complete physically demanding tasks in remote areas and/or hot and dry climates, including walking, hiking, carrying loads up to 50 pounds, and excavation

* Moderate out-of-town travel

* Must have demonstrable California experience

Desired Qualifications:

* Ability to be listed as a Field Director with the BLM California

* Listed with the Register of Professional Archaeologists

* Prefer specialization in California and or Great Basin Archaeology

* Prefer experience working with Native American Tribes

* Prefer specialization in Section 106 compliance on federal lands and California utility sector

* HAZWOPER Certification
