Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Experimental Psychology, Anthropology, Information Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of work experience in an applied research setting.
  • Experience leading teams.

Preferred qualifications:
  • 8 years of experience in a senior role leveraging research to drive strategy and great product design, including a track record of key contributions to innovative, successful products.
  • Experience in a wide range of quantitative and qualitative methodologies, with the ability to build a multi-stream research agenda.
  • Experience working collaboratively with senior UX and PM professionals, and executives in product management and engineering
  • Ability to drive user empathy across a large organization.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to listen, articulate positions, and advocate for research/represent research insights.
  • Excellent negotiation and presentation skills.

About the job

In this role, you will lead a team to drive product and experience strategy across the entire Google Search organization. This includes Apps, News, Search Experiences, the open web ecosystem, and more. As this leader, you will define critical user insights, drive user-centric strategy, define research needs, heavily influence our product roadmap, and drive innovative user-first solutions. You will master and represent multiple perspectives, from engineering to design to research, to influence product outcomes at every stage of the product cycle.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, grow and develop a UXR team of qualitative and quantitative researchers.
  • Advocate for and secure the right capabilities and people to augment and amplify the team's current capabilities.
  • Define and lead research initiatives across all Search products and services with insights directly impacting and influencing product strategy.
  • Perform market trend analysis and synthesis in order to identify the largest opportunities across Search and Google.
  • Maintain robust relationships with our partner organizations across Google (specific Product Areas) to define and deploy research opportunities, develop long-term strategies and uncover meaningful insights.
