Job Description:

The Department of History, Sociology, & Anthropology at Southern Utah University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Biological Anthropology. The position will begin August 2022. First consideration of applications begins Jan 14th, 2022, but the position will remain open until filled.

While the area of specialization within Biological Anthropology is open, preference will be given to candidates with experience in Forensic Anthropology, Bioarchaeology, or related fields. We seek a broadly trained biological anthropologist who works well with colleagues from other disciplines, is committed to undergraduate teaching and experiential learning, and is interested in helping build a vibrant Anthropology program at Southern Utah University. Successful candidates must be able to teach introductory courses in Biological Anthropology and Forensic Anthropology as well as upper division classes in their areas of speciality.

Position Responsibilities:

1. Teaching 4 courses per semester (a 4/4 load).

2. Teaching Intro. to Bio. Anthro., Intro. to Forensic Anthro., and other upper and lower division Biological Anthropology courses as needed.

3. Professional service on departmental, college, and university committees.

4. Mentoring undergraduate research.

5. Curriculum development.

Education and Experience Requirements:

1. Ph.D. in Anthropology with a focus on biological anthropology, forensic anthropology, bioarchaeology, or closely related field. ABDs will be considered if the degree will be conferred by the start date.

2. Successful record of teaching undergraduate students.

3. Active research agenda and an interest in mentoring undergraduate research.

4. Strong oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students in an undergraduate academic setting.
